The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has taken action in conjunction with several intermediaries to block 18 OTT sites that distribute obscene, vulgar, and, in certain cases, pornographic content.

In India, 19 websites, 10 applications (7 on Google Play and 3 on Apple App Store), and 57 social media accounts affiliated with these platforms have been made inaccessible to the public.

Dreams Films, Voovi, Yessma, Uncut Adda, Tri Flicks, X Prime, Neon X VIP, Besharams, Hunters, Rabbit, Xtramood, Newflix, MoodX, Mojflix, Hotshots, IP, Fugi, Chikooflix, and Primeplay have all stopped broadcasting content as a result of the decision.

“A considerable portion of the content offered on these platforms was determined to be obscene, profane, and depicted women in humiliating ways. It featured nudity and sexual behaviors in a variety of unsuitable situations, including teacher-student interactions and incestuous family relationships. The content contained sexual innuendos and, in some cases, lengthy parts of pornographic and sexually explicit sequences with no thematic or cultural value.

The content was found to be prima facie in violation of Sections 67 and 67A of the IT Act, Section 292 of the IPC, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act of 1986.

The latest decision was made in accordance with the requirements of the Information Technology Act of 2000, after consultation with other Ministries/Departments of the Government of India. As well as domain experts in media and entertainment, women’s rights, and child rights.
