Netflix, in cooperation with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), has announced a mega live sports event that will be the company’s first excursion into boxing.

The streaming behemoth will host a megafight between anti-hero Jake “El Gallo” Paul and the legendary Mike Tyson. This historic fight is set to take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will be broadcast live globally on Netflix.

Jake Paul, aka “The Problem Child,” has a 9-1 record with 6 KOs, making this his most anticipated battle to date. Coming off two consecutive stunning knockouts against professional boxers and Golden Glove winners, Paul is looking to solidify his place as a strong force in the boxing world. His search for respect has been shocking to watch, but many onlookers believe “The Baddest Man On The Planet” is biting off more than Jake can chew (pun intended).

Paul highlighted his excitement about meeting Tyson, saying, “It’s weird to think that in my second professional fight, I went viral by knocking out Nate Robinson on Mike Tyson’s undercard. Now, fewer than four years later, I’m ready to confront Tyson myself.” He stressed the event’s significance, describing it as “the biggest fight in history, a fight in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live on the world’s largest streaming platform.”

Mike Tyson, a legendary former undisputed world heavyweight champion, is one of boxing’s most recognizable figures. Tyson has a 50-6 record, including an incredible 44 knockouts, and is known for his explosive power and savage fighting style, which led to an astonishing run of 37 consecutive victories. Iron Mike expressed his excitement for the impending encounter, saying, “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.”

This collaboration between Netflix and MVP is not just a watershed moment for the participants, but also a strategic move to assure the event’s global impact. MVP’s creator, Nakisa Bidarian, commented on the collaboration, saying, “Partnering with Netflix for this deal presents an unparalleled opportunity to bring Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson to the world on an unprecedented scale.”

Netflix’s debut into live sports streaming began with The Netflix Cup and The Netflix Slam, and it will continue with WWE Raw beginning in January 2025. Gabe Spitzer, Vice President of Nonfiction Sports at Netflix, highlighted his enthusiasm for the event, noting, “Mike Tyson is one of the biggest icons in boxing history, and Jake Paul is one of the biggest disruptors in boxing history.” On Saturday, July 20, there will be no shortage of drama in the ring in Texas.

As Netflix develops its sports entertainment portfolio, which already includes hits like “Untold,” “Formula 1: Drive To Survive,” and “Full Swing,” the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson matchup promises to be a game changer. This live broadcast not only connects six generations of sports fans, but also establishes a new standard for how boxing events are consumed around the world.
