Though YouTube is making sure its users abide by certain guidelines if they intend to employ artificial intelligence for their own content, the platform is poised to revolutionize the globe.

YouTube acknowledged in a blog post on Tuesday, November 14, that the increased use of AI by its creators would expose the platform to new risks.

YouTube stated in the post that “generative AI has the potential to unlock creativity on YouTube and transform the experience for viewers and creators on our platform.”

However, it is equally crucial to strike a balance between these potential and our duty to safeguard the YouTube community. Regardless of how it’s created, every content published to YouTube is subject to our community guidelines. However, we also recognize that AI will bring new risks, necessitating the development of new strategies.

In the end, YouTube seeks to ensure a healthy ecosystem on the video-sharing platform by stopping the use of AI to deceive viewers.

“Powerful new forms of storytelling powered by AI can also be used to generate content that has the potential to mislead viewers – particularly if they’re unaware that the video has been altered or is synthetically created,” the Google-owned firm continued.

“We’ll make it mandatory for producers to reveal when they’ve used AI techniques to create realistically altered or synthetic content.

“When creators upload content, we will have new options for them to select to indicate that it contains realistic altered or synthetic material.”

In the end, this might benefit the video platform and function similarly to X’s community guidelines feature, allowing viewers to better comprehend the content they are seeing.

YouTube also made it clear that it would not hesitate to take legal action against content providers who attempt to deceive or fail to disclose the usage of artificial intelligence.

“This is particularly crucial when discussing sensitive subjects like elections, ongoing disputes, public health emergencies, or public officials,” the statement read.

“Creators may face content removal, suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, or other penalties if they repeatedly choose not to disclose this information.”

Although I’m sure that some authors are upset by this decision made by the firm, it seems like users might really benefit from this.

YouTube intends to carry out these modifications in the upcoming months and into 2024.
