2Pac has made news once more after the custom-crafted ring he wore in his last public appearance sold for more than $1 million at a Sotheby’s auction.

Sotheby’s New York reported on Monday that Pac’s ring had sold for $1,016,000, an amazing amount given the $300,000 estimate that authorities thought it would first sell for. With a $1 million price tag, 2Pac’s ring has become one of the most precious hip-hop memorabilia ever sold at auction.

“This one-of-a-kind, custom ring was meticulously designed by Pac and is among the final products of his boundless creative energy — a unique artifact from a period of time that is a testament to his enduring influence on hip-hop,” Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s Global Head of Science and Popular Culture, said.

The ring was developed and commissioned by the All Eyez on Me rapper in 1996, and he wore it during his final public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards that year. The ring has a diamond-encrusted crown on top of the band, and the words “Pac & Dada, 1996” is etched on the ring band, an homage to his connection with Quincy Jones’ daughter Kidada Jones at the time.

Pac drew inspiration for the ring from the crowns of historical European kings, according to People. Yaasmyn Fula, Pac’s godmother, put the ring up for auction.

This isn’t the first time Tupac’s personal items have been auctioned off. His breakup letter to Madonna was auctioned off in 2018 with a starting bid of $100,000. Several other letters and images from the rapper’s 1995 prison time were also auctioned off.
