Why Grayson Chrisley Thinks Todd And Julie's Prison Time Is "Worse Than Them Dying"

Todd and Julie Chrisley’s incarceration is the worst possible fate for Grayson Chrisley.

The Growing Up Chrisley star, 17, is speaking out about his parents’ absence nearly five months after they began their sentences in their tax fraud case.

“To me, it’s worse than them dying,” Grayson told Savannah Chrisley on her Unlocked podcast on June 6. “Because they’re present, but they’re not present.” So all that is being squandered is time. I’m suggesting that if they died, you wouldn’t be able to spend any more time with them. So that’s the end of it.”

The youngster then agreed with Savannah’s assessment of being “forced to have closure” in that situation.

“You understand that no time is wasted,” he said. “But they’re here now, but they’re not here.”

During their talk, Savannah—who is currently Grayson’s and Chloe’s guardian—asked her brother if he sees the situation differently, given that “they’re still here for you to hug and say, ‘I love you.'”

“I mean, yeah,” Grayson replied, “but I get to do all of that within a time limit.”

The two brothers also discussed how they try to visit their parents as much as possible—Todd is doing a 12-year sentence in Florida, while Julie is serving a seven-year sentence in Kentucky—but that it isn’t without problems.

“It’s not so much that I don’t want to go,” Grayson explained. “But I’m also 17.” Despite his parents’ advice to “live your life” in the midst of their sentences, he expressed guilt.

“You know they get it,” he continued. “But it’s like, you’re still feeling bad.”

Todd and Julie were sentenced in November after a jury found them guilty earlier that year of bank and fraud violations. The pair had pleaded not guilty to the accusations against them. Previously, their attorney informed E! News that “an appeal is planned.”

Savannah has opened up about the conditions of adjusting to her new family dynamic in the months since Todd and Julie reported to prison in January, with the 25-year-old recently writing a piece about the state of her parents’ marriage.

“To clear up NASTY rumors from people who would love nothing more than to see my family torn apart,” Savannah posted on Instagram on May 14. “My parents are MADLY in love with each other, and they will come out of this trial even stronger and more in love than before.”
