Last Saturday night, Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis performed.

Every fight fan was focused on the top lightweight competitors. Everyone at home was interested, according to the PPV buys’ release. Last Saturday, 1.2 million people watched the fight. The fight, however, is beaten out by Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather. A astounding 4.6 million people bought tickets to see McGregor vs. Mayweather. The buy rate for Davis-Garcis is still a significant win for boxing, though.

MMA may have surpassed mainstream popularity in recent years. However, when it comes to PPV purchases, boxing continues to rule. For background, earlier this month saw a sizable event for the UFC. Middleweight champion Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya were the main event of UFC 287. For the event, the company was hoping for 600,000 purchases. The UFC appears to be the sport that is now receiving the most attention. Boxing continues to earn more money than MMA.

The fight on Saturday embodied all that boxing is about. The spectacle of the introductions, a fierce competition. Finally, a conclusion that was appropriate for this section of the conflict. Davis’ TKO victory over Garcia gave him the title of lightweight king. Following a vicious body blow from Davis, Garcia was unable to respond to the referee’s ten-count. The drama, though, extended beyond the ring. Oscar De La Hoya said that his life was in danger in the arena. Bernard Hopkins, De La Hoya’s business partner, was also prohibited from seeing the match from the stands. Hopkins was disqualified by Davis’ camp during a fight at the weigh-ins.
