Alec Baldwin is “grateful” for the encouragement he has received as Rust filming has resumed.
Following a prop gun accident on the set of the western in New Mexico in October 2021, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the actor’s lawyer, Luke Nikas, said this week that the actor would no longer be prosecuted.
It was decided that filming could begin in Livingston, Montana this month after Baldwin and the producers settled with Hutchins’ family in October of last year.
The 65-year-old shared a picture of himself wearing a black cowboy hat on Instagram on Monday, writing that he was glad to be back in the “stunning” American state.
He wrote, “We filmed SUPERCELL in Billings,” referring to the action movie about a 2023 disaster. “We’re leaving Bozeman now to finish RUST. Montana is beautiful. I appreciate the help I’ve gotten from everyone here.
Baldwin was officially charged earlier this year by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. He pled not guilty to the charges, and on Thursday, his legal team said that the case had been “dismissed.”
In a later statement, special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis said that the charges were dropped so that they could “conduct further investigation” and that they “may be refiled” at a later time.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, an armorer, is still being charged with involuntary manslaughter. She entered a not-guilty plea.
In connection with the case, other civil cases are still pending.
