In 1994, Jennifer Aniston, then 54, shot to stardom playing the legendary Rachel Green, who remained a fan favorite for the entire show’s ten-year run.

Although it has been nearly two decades since the final episode, the actor acknowledged there were some problems with the show that would have probably led to its cancellation if it had been produced in the current cultural climate.

In an interview with the AFP news agency, the Murder Mystery star stated: “There’s a whole generation of people, kids, who are now going back to episodes of Friends and find them offensive.”

While acknowledging that some of the problems were “never intentional,” Jennifer said that there were others for which “we should have given it more consideration.

I don’t believe there was a sensitivity like there is now,” she continued.

Now that you have to be extremely cautious, it’s a little tricky, which is difficult for comedians because the appeal of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves and life.

She asserted that humor before Friends didn’t take into account cultural sensitivities because it was more about “educating people on how ridiculous people were, and now we’re not allowed to do that.”

We can’t consider ourselves too seriously, the actress said, adding that humor is a necessity for life regardless of controversies. Particularly in the US. Everyone is too polarized.

Friends has previously come under fire for having a glaring lack of diversity, both in the primary cast and throughout the show’s 10-season run, which featured very few characters of color.
