Drake Has Been Summoned To Testify In The XXXTentacion Murder Trial

As part of the trial for the murder of rapper XXXTentacion, Drake has been compelled to take a deposition or show up in court.

Three defendants, Michael Boatwright, Trayvon Newsome, and Dedrick Williams, have been on trial in Florida since earlier this week. They are accused of killing Jahseh Onfroy, a 20-year-old rapper, during a heist outside a store in June 2018.

Onfroy’s killing is allegedly related to Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, according to Williams’ defense attorney Mauricio Padilla. At the end of January, he allegedly attempted to subpoena Drake for a deposition in which he would provide testimony under oath, but the God’s Plan hitmaker failed to show up.

In response, Padilla petitioned the court on Thursday to order him to appear in a deposition on February 24.

Rolling Stone reports that the order states, “If deponent Aubrey Drake Graham does not appear to deposition, he must appear before this court on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. EST at so (sic) the court can assess why he should not be held in contempt.”

On February 7, Padilla brought up an apparent beef between the two rappers during his opening remarks. He specifically referenced a February 2018 Instagram Stories post on Onfroy’s page that read, “If anyone tried to kill me, it was Drake, who goes by the handle @champagnepapi. I’m currently spilling.” Later, he removed the post and claimed he had been hacked.

In 2017, Onfroy claimed that Drake had plagiarized his song Look At Me! with his tune KMT, sparking the purported dispute. The conflict between Drake and the younger rapper grew when Drake was repeatedly trolled on social media.
