In the thick of the fight against Russian invaders, Imagine Dragons is assisting Ukraine. The rock band’s appointment as ambassadors for UNITED24, a project started by Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to generate money for the nation’s humanitarian help, was revealed on Monday, July 25.
In light of the ambassadorship, Imagine Dragons worked with Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, on a fundraising initiative to fill ambulances with the materials required to help save lives during the conflict.
Frontman Dan Reynolds issued a statement that read, “We love the people of Ukraine and want to help in any manner possible.” “Only by working together can people from all across the world overcome injustices like these. We support President Zelensky and the lovely Ukrainian people in their bravery. Until this unjust conflict is over, we will collaborate with UNITED24 and local authorities to discover new ways to educate the public and generate money for the cause. We eagerly await the time when we may perform in Kyiv once more and celebrate liberty, life, and music with the tenacious and powerful Ukrainian people.
The group will soon be joined as ambassadors for UNITED24 by tennis pro Elina Svitolina, football player Andriy Shevchenko, and actor Liev Schreiber.
Imagine Dragons canceled their performances in Russia this summer and took their discography—which includes their newly released sixth album, Mercury — Act 2—off the Russian market as a sign of support for Ukraine. The album was made available as the follow-up to Mercury — Act 1, which was published in 2021 and reached its top position of No. 9 on the Billboard 200.
