According to Post Malone, Frances Bean Cobain granted him permission to host his 2020 Nirvana charity livestream event.
The rapper/rocker gave a 15-song set in homage to the grunge giants while raising money for The United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for The World Health Organization (WHO).
He covered several songs, including “Lounge Act,” “On A Plain,” and “Heart-Shaped Box.” Additionally, Post honored the late leader of the band, Kurt Cobain, by donning a flowery dress during the performance. Post was accompanied by Travis Barker on drums, Brian Lee on bass, and Nick Mac on guitar.
Posty, who previously disclosed that Cobain’s wife Courtney Love had given him permission to perform the memorial, claimed he also sought Frances Bean’s approval in a recent interview with Howard Stern.
He said, “We went to Kurt’s daughter. It’s significant to me since Kurt was a huge inspiration to me musically and I adored him so much.
It was OK, we made money for a wonderful cause, and we got to play some of the most epic songs ever, he continued. “I could never want to upset someone by trying to show support, so I just wanted to make sure that everything was okay.”
Dave Grohl, a former Nirvana drummer, applauded Malone’s performance after the webcast, calling it “very awesome.”
They were dominating. I therefore watched a lot of it. I thought that was extremely nice,” he remarked. He seemed completely at ease doing Nirvana songs, and it sounded fantastic. I don’t frequently get to see other people perform Nirvana songs.
“Dude, he’s kind of killing it right now,” said some of the most ardent Nirvana fans I know.
Krist Novoselic, the bassist from Nirvana, tweeted that he was “very pleased” of Post Malone and his band, adding his seal of approval to the performance.
Post Malone has often gushed about how much he loves Kurt Cobain’s band. During a Coachella performance in 2016, he sang a version of the song “Lithium” from “Nevermind.”
