The CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery revealed Thursday during an investor conference that Mortal Kombat 12 will arrive later this year.

According to Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav, the following Mortal Kombat game will be published sometime in 2023 along with Rocksteady Studios’ Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Zaslav’s announcement of Mortal Kombat 12 and the new Suicide Squad game to investors and the media was unusually casual for the Mortal Kombat series. He stated that Warner Bros. Discovery has “ambitious launch forecasts” for both titles.

Mortal Kombat 12’s creator, NetherRealm Studios, a Warner Bros. Discovery company, has not yet made any public remarks. Ed Boon, the co-creator of the series, previously suggested on Twitter that a new Mortal Kombat game from NetherRealm would debut in 2023 and expressed the hope that The Boys’ Homelander “would fit in perfectly” as a guest character. (NetherRealm has already announced that Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, a smartphone RPG, will debut this year.)

Mortal Kombat 11, the most current Mortal Kombat game from NetherRealm, was released in April 2019. Through 2020, the creator published an expansion pack called Aftermath and added 12 new characters to the cast. After providing more than two years of support for Mortal Kombat 11, the company declared in 2021 that it was “focusing on its next project.”
