Aaron Judge Signs A 9-Year, $360M Deal To Remain With The New York Yankees

Much to the relief of their supporters who had to see yet another heartbreaking playoff series loss to the Houston Astros, Aaron Judge will stay with the New York Yankees.

On December 7th, the 30-year-old agreed to a nine-year, $360 million contract, according to MLB Network Insider Jon Morosi.

When the All-Star outfielder and the storied team were unable to come to terms on a contract extension before to Opening Day, Aaron Judge’s playing future became a hot subject throughout the 2022 MLB season. The Bronx Bombers’ final offer, said to general manager Brian Cashman, was for seven years and $213.5 million.

Hal Steinbrenner, the owner of the Yankees, said he wanted the record-breaker to stay a Yankee for life and traveled to Tampa Bay, Florida, to speak with him after the Yankees were eliminated from the American League Championship Series in a 4-0 sweep. Before deciding to remain in New York, Judge reportedly met with the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres as well.

The Yankees star is coming off of one of the finest seasons in baseball history, hitting a record-breaking 62 home runs in the American League, breaking Roger Maris’ old mark from 1961. He also won his first MVP award and led the AL with 131 RBIs. These achievements add weight to a résumé that also includes four All-Star game appearances, the 2017 AL Rookie of the Year honor, and the 52-home run rookie record.

The New York Yankees can now concentrate on strengthening their roster to pursue their first World Series trip since defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 in 2009 with their superstar centerpiece secured for the next almost decade.
