According to insiders who spoke to Deadline, Sony Animation and Netflix are working together on a Ghostbusters animated movie, adding to their already-developed animated series.
According to the insiders, Kris Pearn is attached to direct the project, which is still in its early stages of creation.
Details of the plot are being kept secret.
The most recent live-action Ghostbusters movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, came out earlier this year, and the movie is a part of the growing Ghostbusters world. A separate, brand-new animated series based on the adored Ghostbusters IP is also being developed by Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix in collaboration with Ghost Corps.

Sources close to the film’s development believe that the project might achieve for the IP what the Beyond the Spider-Verse movies did for Spider-Man, in addition to extending the Ghostbusters universe. In addition to earning over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide at the box office, that franchise has won other awards, including an Oscar for Best Animated Film for the first movie and the confirmation of the directors for the final, currently in production.
Regarding Pearn, the filmmaker has close relationships with Sony Animation and Netflix. He directed the popular sequel Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 for Sony Animation and, most recently, The Willoughbys for Netflix. UTA and manager Jason Grode represent him.
