Although Joey Chestnut is not eligible for the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Championship, on September 2 he and Takeru Kobayashi, another notable figure in fast eating, will compete live on Netflix in a hot dog consumption competition.
The event is titled Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef on Netflix. The location is still unknown.
Chestnut claimed on social media earlier this week that he had been “banned” from the Nathan’s event on July 4.
The event’s organizer, Major League Eating, stated that Chestnut is not invited since he recently signed a contract with a different hot dog company. That would be Impossible Foods, a plant-based company that makes meatballs, chicken tenders, hot dogs, and other items.
“We are distraught to discover that instead of participating in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey Chestnut has opted to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs,” a statement from MLE claimed.
The Coney Island Fourth of July festival airs on ESPN.

From 2001 to 2006, Kobayashi was the contest winner; this year, he declared his retirement.
Chestnut has won eight of the previous sixteen Fourth of July championships.
He scored 62 to win the title the previous year. Geoffrey Esper, the runner-up, scored 49. Miki Sudo scored 39.5 to win the women’s competition.
The chairman of Major League Eating, George Shea, expressed his hope that Chestnut and his team might come to an agreement so that Chestnut could compete in Coney Island prior to the announcement of the Netflix event. He told B+C, “We would love to have him there if we can work it out.” “We have been and will continue to try to resolve this.”
