On Tuesday, Paramount+ published the trailer for Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback. The documentary will air on Paramount+ on August 15.

On December 3, 1968, Elvis Presley’s 1968 special aired. Presley, dressed in black leather, reintroduced listeners to his music after taking a break to appear in movies.

A new interview with Comeback Special director Steve Binder appears on Reinventing Elvis. Binder discusses Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

“From the first minute I met Parker, I kept telling myself, ‘I’m not doing this,'” Binder says in the trailer.

Reinventing Elvis also includes evidence from Presley specialists and live televised audience members. Contemporary recording artists also comment on the special’s impact.

The trailer features Drake Milligan. Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish and music producer Maffio also appear in the documentary.

Reinventing Elvis was directed by John Scheinfeld. Spencer Proffer produced the film through his Meteor 17 label, which also released The Day the Music Died: Don McLean’s American Pie. Binder also co-executives with Bruce Gillmer.
