JAY-Z continues to rack up the awards throughout his career. According to VIBE, JAY-Z is the first Black male artist to have at least ten solo studio albums certified double-platinum.
The accomplishment follows the RIAA’s certification of Hov’s Blueprint 3 with two million equivalent album sales. The album The Black has also been certified triple platinum. HOV has a total sales record of $33.5 million and counting in his career.
Mariah Carey, who has eleven double-platinum records, was the first Black person to earn the designation.
Additional maneuvers by Hov are highlighted in “The Book Of HOV,” an immersive exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Branch dedicated to Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter’s renowned career and cultural accomplishments. The show, which opens to the public on July 14, honors Carter’s global impact as a musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and disruptor. Carter’s hometown of Brooklyn, as well as the wider hip-hop culture, are honored in the surprise exhibition.

To accompany the exhibition, the Brooklyn Public Library and Roc Nation have teamed to develop 13 limited-edition library cards showcasing artwork from JAY-Z’s classic albums. Visitors can obtain these exclusive cards beginning July 14th and at library branches throughout Brooklyn beginning August 7th.
The comprehensive experience includes artifacts, accolades, rare images, magazine covers, and more from Carter’s 27-year career, beginning with his breakthrough album, Reasonable Doubt. A reproduction of Baseline Studios, where Carter recorded his famous albums, is on display, as is Dan Tobin Smith’s art installation from the cover of “The Blueprint 3.”
Beyond music, the show focuses on Carter’s commercial ventures, philanthropy, and social justice advocacy, such as his role as a co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets and his success with brands such as TIDAL, Armand de Brignac Champagne, and D’USSE Cognac.

Christie’s will also sell a complete set of limited-edition library cards in a special leather box, hand-signed by JAY-Z, with revenues benefiting the Brooklyn Public Library. Roc Nation will also add to the library’s vinyl collection, as well as providing books and a monetary donation. The display attempts to attract visitors while also supporting the library’s objective of providing community knowledge, literacy, and programs.
