Arnold Schwarzenegger paid a moving homage to Bruce Willis’ retirement.

Willis’ family officially stated early last year that the actor had been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition caused by brain damage that affects a person’s vocabulary or ability to communicate, and that he would be retiring from the film and television industries.

Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in February 2023, according to a’more specific diagnosis’.

And his The Expendables co-star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, has since commented on his friend’s retirement from acting.

Schwarzenegger and Willis first worked together as action heroes in the 2010 and 2012 films The Expendables.

Willis played Mr Church, an undercover CIA agent who poses as a man who does business within a (you guessed it) church.

In addition, Schwarzenegger plays Trench Mauser, a rival mercenary and former teammate of Expendables leader Barney Ross.

Schwarzenegger called his Expendables co-star ‘amazing’ in a recent interview.

“He was, always for years and years, a huge, huge star,” he told Cinema Blend. And I believe he will be recognized as a huge, great star. And a gentleman.

“I understand that he had to retire due to his health circumstances.”

“But, in general, we never really retire.” “Action heroes reload.”

Willis’ family thanked all fans and friends of the celebrity for their continuous support in a post on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) website.

“As a family, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for the outpouring of love and compassion for Bruce over the past ten months,” the message said. Your generosity of spirit has been incredible, and we are eternally thankful.

“[…] Bruce has always found joy in life, and he has taught everyone he knows how to do the same.” It meant everything to see that level of caring reflected back to him and to all of us.

“We have been moved by your love for our dear husband, father, and friend during this difficult time.”

“Your continued compassion, understanding, and respect will enable us to help Bruce live the fullest life possible.”

Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, has been vocal about the Die Hard star’s battle with the ailment and how the family is supporting him.

She recently spoke about her daughter Evelyn’s great aid to her father, which made the proud mother cry.

Evelyn told Emma that she had been ‘searching up information’ about her father’s sickness during her spare time at school, which Emma described as the most ‘kind and compassionate thing you can do’.
