This June, Snoop Dogg will perform two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl to mark the 30th anniversary of the release of his debut album, Doggystyle.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic revealed on Tuesday that the venue will host the 30th Anniversary of Doggystyle and other events as part of its summer 2023 concert lineup on June 27–28. Both productions will feature special guests and feature music composed by the Derrick Hodge-led Re-Collective Orchestra.
Doggystyle, which was released on November 23, 1993, is regarded as one of the finest rap albums of all time and made Snoop a true megastar. The album opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 803,000 copies sold in its first week on shelves, a record for a rap release at the time. It is one of the most anticipated debut albums in Hip-Hop history. Doggystyle spent three weeks at the top of the albums list and later received a multi-platinum certification.
The album featured appearances by artists and affiliates of Death Row Records including Nate Dogg, Warren G., Kurupt, The Lady of Rage, The D.O.C., and Tha Dogg Pound, as well as the R&B group The Dramatics. The singles “What’s My Name?” and “Gin and Juice” and “Doggy Dogg World” served as the album’s centerpieces. Doggystyle has sold more than 11 million copies globally since its release.
Snoop Dogg revealed in October 2022 that he and Dr. Dre were creating a follow-up to Doggystyle called Missionary, a pun on the name of the first album.
