In a recent interview, Ed Sheeran was open about his current alcohol use habits.
The musician previously admitted to drinking up to ten pints every night until he had a talk with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, who was pregnant with their first daughter. “Two months before Lyra was born, Cherry asked, ‘If my waters break, do you really want someone else to drive me to the hospital?'” “I was just drinking a lot,” he explained. “I replied, ‘No, actually, I really don’t.'” And I never want to be pissed [drunk] while holding my kid. “Forever, ever.”

His connection with narcotics shifted after the death of his best buddy, Jamal Edwards. “I would never, ever, ever touch anything again, because that’s how Jamal died,” he told Rolling Stone in 2023, adding that his death prompted Ed to address his own history of depression. He previously stated on his drug use, “It simply becomes a habit that you do once a week, then once a day, then twice a day, and then, like, without booze. It simply became terrible vibrations.”

In a new episode of Call Her Daddy, Ed was asked about his most embarrassing drinking incident, which was being locked out of his hotel room completely naked (save for a napkin) while attempting to find the bathroom one night. “I am sober at the moment. So that’s absolutely helping with not doing stupid crap,” Ed explained.

Noting that things are “good,” he went on, “I saw the schedule for this year’s album release.” Basically, I’m flying all over the world and then going home while also being a father. I don’t want to add another layer of weariness to that. So I’m going to avoid drinking and be focused and energized.”

He now loves to unwind by watching a movie. “I also find when you drink, you never really have a proper sleep anyway because there’s so much sugar in your body,” he says.
“I’m not gonna be sober forever, but I’ve definitely changed my relationship with alcohol because I used to drink every single day,” he told reporters. “I’m not a spirits man; I drink beer occasionally, but at the end of the day, I prefer wine. But now I’m not doing it. My wife and I have date night once a week, and I believe that’s when I’ll start drinking. We’ll share a bottle of wine that night instead of having something every night.”
