Elon Musk’s recent remarks about the possible pardon of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer found guilty of killing George Floyd, have drawn public criticism from Offset.

On Tuesday, March 4, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and the owner of X (previously Twitter), reposted a video in which Ben Shapiro, a conservative commentator, argued in favor of Chauvin’s release. Musk added, “Something to think about,” in response to the video, seemingly endorsing the idea of pardoning the former officer.

Offset called Musk out on Instagram, expressing his dissatisfaction. He commented, “Racist b***h playin’ in Black folks’ faces.” By declaring, “Driving Ferrari, not Tesla,” he also made the decision to boycott the company.

Shapiro has started a petition asking former President Donald Trump to pardon Chauvin, who is presently serving a 21-year sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights and a 22-and-a-half-year term for second-degree murder. Shapiro said in a letter to Trump that lawmakers had impacted the public narrative before to the trial and that Chauvin’s conviction was the result of “massive overt pressure on the jury.”

Chauvin, whose conviction came after protests against police violence around the world, has made several unsuccessful appeals. He was stabbed in prison in late 2023, although his wounds were not life-threatening.

Both Chauvin’s admirers and detractors have responded strongly to Musk’s remarks, which have reignited the issue on social media.
