Finally, Lewis Capaldi’s video has reached the billion-view mark on YouTube. This week, the Scottish singer became the first visual to earn a billie with his 2019 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 record, which catapulted him onto the 10-digit list.

A dejected Capaldi sits on a park bench holding hands with a lover who appears equally shaken in the accompanying video for the heartbreak ballad, which was first released as a single from his second EP, 2018’s Breach, and later featured on his 2019 debut album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.

His haunting song, “I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to save me/ This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy/ I need somebody to heal/ Somebody to know/ Somebody to have/ Somebody to hold/ It’s easy to say,” is played over the hypnotic piano figure as she stands up and leaves.

A buddy tries to soothe the distressed vocalist as he wanders the foggy streets, lamenting his anticipated future of sleeping alone after “getting kinda used to being someone you loved” on the song that also peaked at the top of the U.K. charts, where it remained at the top for seven weeks. Uncertain about how to continue, Capaldi wanders the desolate streets while a group of partying ladies pause to implore him to simply let her go. Then, as his ex-lover glances back one final time, it appears like the entire town comes out to hold him back. As the woman leaves and appears to be gone from his life, the video concludes with Capaldi singing into space.
