It appears that Hollywood’s penchant for sequels is bringing back a beloved film that fans are eager to watch.

Last Friday, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the cherished Friday movie series, is now officially in production, according to Mike Epps. On March 4, Epps said on The Breakfast Club that Ice Cube called him to tell him the good news.

According to Epps, “[Ice Cube] called me the other day and said we just finished the deal.” “Well, we’re doing the final ‘Friday’ man.”

If you’re a fan of the franchise, Epps, who has been a member of the Friday universe since Friday After Next (2002) and Next Friday (2000), thanked Ice Cube for his continuous efforts to help people in the entertainment business. “Man, congrats to Cube. Man, that brother has thrown on a lot of different monikers. This guy put a lot of— and he doesn’t really deserve the praise, bro. In honor of the group of actors Cube helped break into the spotlight, Epps continued, “Put me, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac, I mean name ’em.”

Even though Epps is enthusiastic about the project, he acknowledged that he hasn’t viewed the Last Friday screenplay yet. “But I’m fairly certain it’s good,” he grinned. While stressing that the “OGs” will also be returning, he also hinted that the movie would have new talent in addition to the existing cast, which includes D.C. Young Fly.

This is what everyone wants to see. Additionally, Epps fervently urged Chris Tucker to reprise his role as Smokey, a beloved character from the first movie. Chris Tucker is still adored by people. He remains Smokey. “He put it down,” he said. “Chris, if you’re listening, we need you baby boy,” he added, turning to face Tucker. Come on back. Tucker previously left the franchise because of his religious convictions, so it’s unclear how involved he will be this time.

The truth about this long-awaited sequel is that there have been whispers about Last Friday for years, and many fans have been waiting impatiently for it to come out, particularly since John Witherspoon passed away in 2019. In January, comedian Katt Williams, who portrayed Money Mike in Friday After Next, made a statement emphasizing how urgent it is to make the movie in order to do tribute to Witherspoon’s legacy. “In any case, we lost several wonderful people before [Friday 4] could be released. Thus, it is imperative that there be one. However, we miss John Witherspoon in a sense that is indescribable,” Williams said.

Additionally, Williams disclosed that he had discussed composing his portion for Last Friday with Ice Cube. It was meant to be written by me. In his interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, he clarified, “This is what these guys are mad about.”

Since the 1995 release of the first movie in the Friday franchise, which was started by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh, it has been a cultural mainstay. Craig Jones (Ice Cube) and his eccentric friends and family are followed as they navigate life in South Central Los Angeles in the stoner-comedy series. With the success of the sequels Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002), the original movie gained a devoted following and became an unexpected smash. Additionally, in 2007, MTV2 temporarily broadcast an animated TV series based on the movies.

Fans have been excitedly anticipating the new episode of the Friday series, which has become as a seminal comedy phenomenon. Epps stated that the contract is formally finalized and the movie is on its way, even if production details are still being kept under wraps and no official date has been established.
