According to many sources, the New York Mets and superstar outfielder Juan Soto have agreed to a record 15-year, $765 million contract.
Depending on a physical, this would be the richest transaction in Major League Baseball history.
MLB.com reports that the contract includes a $75 million signing bonus, an opt-out clause after five seasons, and no deferred compensation. In an unusual provision, the Mets can nullify Soto’s opt-out after the 2029 season by raising the average yearly value of the final ten years from $51 million to $55 million. This modification would increase the transaction’s total value to $805 million, with an annual average of $53.66 million.
