Denzel Washington has reached a point in his career where he is beginning to reflect on his accomplishments and become more selective about assignments.

We’ve already heard him mention only working with the best stars in movies (including Ryan Coogler on “Black Panther 3”). However, it looks that he intends to make additional films in his beloved “Equalizer” franchise.

Denzel Washington told Esquire, while promoting his upcoming part in “Gladiator II,” that he plans to work on two (yes, two) new “Equalizer” sequels. He doesn’t reveal any narrative information, nor does he specify when they’ll begin production. However, it’s evident that Washington is looking forward to returning to the film series for the fourth and fifth time.

“I told them I would do another ‘Equalizer,’ and we’re doing four and five,” Washington confessed. “More people are happy about it—people love those daggone ‘Equalizers.'” But I’ve realized that the ‘Equalizer’ films are for me, too, because they’re about the people. They want me to go after the evil ones. ‘We can’t get them; you go get them.’ And I said, ‘Okay, I’ll grab them! Just wait there. “I’ll be right back!”

It’s safe to presume that filmmaker Antoine Fuqua will return for the forthcoming “Equalizer” flicks. He helmed the franchise’s prior three installments. The most recent picture, “The Equalizer 3,” debuted in 2023 and grossed more than $191 million worldwide on a reported $70 million budget. Apparently, that level of earnings is all that is required to greenlight two more sequels.

We will have to wait and see how well Washington handles the physicality required for the “Equalizer” franchise. The actor will turn 70 next month, so you would expect him to make the new sequels shortly. You don’t want to watch a 75-year-old man trying to frighten criminals.

Meanwhile, you may see Denzel Washington in the new film “Gladiator II,” which hits theaters later this week.
