On Capitol Hill, Brett Favre, 54, revealed with sadness that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease recently.

During a welfare reform hearing in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, the renowned quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre, revealed his belief that he was close to inventing a drug with Prevacus to assist treat brain injuries.

During his opening remarks, Favre stated, “Unfortunately, I also lost an investment in a company that I thought was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others.”

Brett disclosed that he will receive a diagnosis of degenerative nervous system disease at that point.

“You’ll understand, I’m sure, why it’s too late for me—I recently received a Parkinson’s diagnosis. I’m also really passionate about this cause.”

Parkinson’s disease “is a brain disorder that causes unintended or uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with balance and coordination,” according to the National Institute of Aging.

In an interview from 2018, Favre stated that he only knows of “three or four” concussions that he has experienced, but throughout the course of his 20-year career, he may have had more than 1,000.

Although there isn’t a proven cure for the illness, there are therapies that can help manage symptoms and preserve quality of life.
