A Navy boss took doomscrolling to a whole new level when she covertly put a satellite dish on the boat she was in control of.

The choice was taken in secrecy so that she and her crew could’scroll social media’, but it eventually ended her military career.

An investigation into the discharge of USS Manchester’s command senior chief, Grisel Marrero, has uncovered the reason for her demotion.

You’d be hard-pressed to get a signal when cruising the oceans.

Serving sailors spend weeks, months, or even years at a time floating onboard their ship deep at sea, so they aren’t kept up to date on the outside world, football scores, how their families are doing, and so on.

So you can understand why Marrero chose to install WiFi on her ship.

However, it comes at the expense of the ship’s safety, among other things.

The reason warships are not planned or built with satellites on board is to prevent cyber attacks from jeopardizing the crew’s mission.

Let’s get to it.

In April of last year, Marrero and more than a dozen chief petty officers paid $2,800 each to install the Starlink High Performance Kit, which SpaceX designed.

Starlink’s High Performance Kit is designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet while in motion. It has a broad field of view and improved GPS capabilities, ensuring reliable connectivity on the go.

According to the inquiry, they appear to have purchased the best satellite money could buy.

They then decided to discreetly put it on the ship before it left San Diego.

Senior officers could then communicate with their pals, but only in specific areas of the vessel, which wasn’t enough.

Marrero and her team purchased signal enhancers and deployed them around the ship during their visit to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

But how could they get away with it when you could see the WiFi on your phone?

So they disguised it as a printer and set up payment plans through the chief’s mess to fund it.

Marrero was dismissed of her duty after being caught lying to her superior officer.

She was demoted to chief petty officer in March after pleading guilty to making false official statements to superiors during her trial.
