Regarding their mother, Patricia, Carey described their connection as a mix of “betrayal” and “beauty.”
However, our story involves both treachery and beauty. About love and abandonment. About sacrifice and survival. In her book, Carey wrote, “I’ve emancipated myself from bondage several times, but there is a cloud of sadness that I suspect will always hang over me, not only because of my mother, but because of our complicated journey together.” ″It has caused me great pain and confusion. Time has taught me that there is no point in trying to defend individuals who have never tried to protect me. Time and children have finally given me the strength to confront who my mother has been to me.
