Prior to the Drake and Kendrick Lamar controversy, Mustard (previously DJ Mustard) and Drake were on excellent terms.

While they did not have the best rapport when it came to recording music together, they did aid YG with “Who Do You Love?” in 2014. Perhaps this sparked the producer’s respect for The Boy, since five years later, Mustard was doing everything he could to include him on his 2019 album, Perfect Ten. He specifically wanted him for the hit “100 Bands,” which later included Quavo, YG, and Meek Mill. However, despite numerous phone calls, nothing happened.

Mustard was asked about this during an interview with New York’s Power 105.1, and he said that he wasn’t even ignoring him. “No, he didn’t ignore me; he just didn’t take the call. I phoned many times. I saw him a few times and he said, ‘Send me something’.” So, why am I telling you this? Now that Mustard appears to be at war with Drake, supporters of the latter are resurrecting an old interview and saying that this is when the producer began to dislike the rapper.

“They all need that Drake stimulus package🤣🤣🤣🤣,” said a user on X trolls. Another makes a humorous reference to a Kendrick line from “Not Like Us”: “He a fan, he a fan, he a fan, he a fan…….” You may claim that this sparked the side feud between the two. However, Mustard’s production of “Not Like Us” and Drake’s social media follow-up with the beat maker’s ex-wife Chanel Thierry are also likely primary causes.
