Jonathan Owens is cheering on his wife Simone Biles as she makes history in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Chicago Bears safety, wearing a custom designed t-shirt with a collage of Biles, posed triumphantly with the famed gymnast after winning her latest gold medal.

“Witnessing history every time you step on the mat,” the 29-year-old posted on Instagram. Throughout the competition, Owens sat with the Biles family, pretending to take notes on his spouse’s performance.

Congratulations, darling, on being the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just WOW!!!! There are eight of them!!!! So glad I was there to witness it.”

Normally, the professional athlete would be in training camp preparing for the new NFL season, but he was able to arrange a trip to Paris to support his wife. According to ESPN, Owens has been excused from practice from July 29 to August 3, and is anticipated to return on August 4.

“Just because we respect the Olympics,” said Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.

“That is a huge deal. And all he’s doing is supporting the person he cares about the most. And I think it’s awesome that he gets to do that. We welcome it, and it is going to be fantastic. “Go USA.”

On Tuesday (July 30), Biles won her seventh Olympic medal, making her the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history. According to NBC News, the 27-year-old is already the most decorated gymnast in history from any country, including world championship medals. Biles has 38 combined world and Olympic medals.

Along with Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, their cumulative score of 171.296 defeated Italy, the silver medalists, by over six points, according to ESPN. It is the first time Team USA has won gold in the artistic gymnastics competition since 2016.

“After I finished vault, I was actually like ‘whew,’ because there were no flashbacks or anything,” Biles recalled.” “However, I did feel a lot of relief. And as soon as I landed, I said, ‘Oh yeah, we’re certainly going to do this.’ Yeah, it was exactly what I was thinking.”

“I’m so proud of them,” said Chellsie Memmel, the team’s technical leader. “Despite challenges in qualifying, the team worked together to achieve success. … It was all about collaboration. “It was incredible to watch.”

She went on: “I’m not going to lie, I was nervous throughout the whole competition, but they did their job.”
