Microsoft is experiencing a severe outage that has caused considerable disruption, and Elon Musk is absolutely loving it.

The outage is said to have begun at 6 p.m. ET yesterday (July 18), when businesses and institutions were suddenly taken offline due to an issue relating to Windows computers.

The outage has affected everything from banks and supermarkets to airlines and rail systems, and it has been connected to Crowdstrike, a security firm that published a software upgrade just hours ago.

Crowdstrike CEO George Kurtz stated in a statement that the outage was ‘not a security incident or cyberattack’.

“Crowdstrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts,” the executive stated.

“Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. […] The problem has been discovered, isolated, and a solution has been implemented.

Crowdstrike has directed consumers to its support portal for the most recent upgrades, stating: “[We] will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website.” Furthermore, we urge that organizations communicate with CrowdStrike officials through official means.

“Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.”

Meanwhile, Microsoft confirmed that the issue affecting Windows devices was caused by an update from a third-party software platform.

“We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming,” the statement stated.

While Crowdstrike is dealing with the situation, Musk has been having a field day with it since he originally called out Microsoft in 2021.

At the time, Musk posted on X, “Macrohard >> Microsoft.”

He did admit that Microsoft Teams is ‘very decent’, but following the recent outage, Musk returned to his earlier judgment.

Tesla’s creator reposted a message from 2021, merely adding “…” to show it was still relevant.

Musk’s fans have responded positively, with his post receiving over 52,000 likes as of July 19.

Crowdstrike, which calls itself a ‘global cybersecurity leader’, collaborates with some of the world’s largest corporations to assist prevent internet breaches or hacks.

Delta, United, and American Airlines are among the airlines affected by the outage, which has forced them to ground all aircraft, regardless of destination, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

At least 600 flights have already been canceled due to the interruption.
