Although the number of cord cutters is increasing more quickly than before, many of them are eschewing live TV service.

In just the first quarter of 2024, more than 1.2 million Comcast, Spectrum, and DISH customers cancelled their services. According to a study by Craig Moffett, YouTube TV, one of the live TV streaming services that had experienced membership growth, reportedly lost 150,000 users in the first quarter of 2024.

This occurs as more and more cord-cutters prioritize on-demand streaming services over live TV. Since many cord cutters will wait until the 2024 NFL season this autumn to resubscribe, YouTube TV confronted that trend and the end of the 2023 NFL season, which is likely what caused the drop in subscribers.

These decreases coincide with the ongoing loss of cable TV subscribers. In the first quarter of 2024, Comcast, Spectrum, and DISH lost more than 13,700 TV subscribers every day. More than 5 million TV subscribers will stop watching DISH, Comcast, and Spectrum programming if this trend keeps up. Compared to the 3.260 million the three companies lost in 2023, it would be an increase.

Comcast said it lost 487,000 cable TV customers in its first quarter financial report, which was made public this morning. That comes to a daily total of more than 5,300 Subscribers. Compared to the 34,000 broadband users it lost in the fourth quarter of 2023, the corporation lost 65,000 customers during the quarter.
