Miley Cyrus appears to have taken steps to quell rumours of a strained family relationship.

The 31-year-old singer prompted speculation that she had a falling out with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, after she excluded him from a Grammy Award speech in February after thanking other members of her family.

Billy divorced Miley’s mother, Tish Finley, after 30 years of marriage last year, and according to sources, the former couple’s daughter Noah has reportedly fallen out with Tish as a result of the split.

On David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction show, Miley presented a picture of a happier household than the one depicted by persistent rumors, adding, “Honestly, my mom is my idol.

“My father – I’m grateful for the opportunity to watch him ahead of me. He almost gave me this map. There is a map outlining what to do and what not to do. And he’s guided me through both.”

The Hannah Montana star went on to discuss the differences between her upbringing and that of her father.

She remarked, “My father had a very difficult childhood. And my childhood – I mean, we can speak about the hard times or the hardships, but I had food, love, and I grew up in a magnificent huge house, which my father did not have.”

She then added, “I inherited narcissism from my father. He also has a connection with nature and a sense of reality. And he always did, even when he was extremely popular.”
