Dolly Parton Calls The Cancellation Culture "Terrible," While Defending Kid Rock's Collaboration

The ongoing controversy about ‘cancel culture’ appears to be continuing, with country singer Dolly Parton weighing in this week.

While some believe that holding wrongdoers accountable is critical, others believe that society is too ready to judge celebrities for their errors.

Dolly Parton’s opinion on cancel culture comes on the heels of the announcement that the 77-year-old singer would be working on her upcoming rock album, ‘ROCKSTAR,’ with fellow country icon Kid Rock.

Kid Rock, 52 – actual name Robert James Ritchie – has experienced serious blowback in the past for his radical political ideas, most of which doesn’t line with Dolly’s own ‘brand’.

However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of her highly anticipated November release, the ‘Jolene’ hitmaker justified her decision to work with him.

“Of course I did [the song] before the controversy that he had, but somebody was talking to me the other day, ‘How could you do this [song] with Kid?’,” she said.

“‘Hey, just because I love you doesn’t mean I don’t adore Kid Rock,’ I said. ‘Just because I like Kid Rock doesn’t mean I don’t like you,’ she says. I neither censure nor criticize. I simply accept and love.”

Kid Rock, the singer of ‘All Summer Long,’ has made headlines numerous times for his provocative opinions.

He damaged a pack of Bud Light beers earlier this year after the firm announced a collaboration with transgender TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

Dolly herself is a staunch supporter of the transgender population, saying in the interview that she has transgender family members.

“I have some of everybody in my own immediate family and in my circle of employees,” she went on to say. “I have transgender people.” I have gays. I have lesbians. I’ve got some drunks. I have several drug addicts in my family. “I know and love them all, and I don’t pass judgment.”

“Like I said, I had done that before, but I’d probably still done it, because he is a gifted guy, and that song was about a bad boy; it was about a boy who was cheating and mistreating her,” she continued, defending the dubious collaboration with Kid Rock.

“However, as I already stated, I adore everyone. I neither critique nor condone nor condemn. I simply accept them. But, in any case, just because I like you doesn’t mean I don’t like Kid Rock.”

She went on to call cancel culture “terrible,” adding that “we all make mistakes.”

“We don’t all get caught at it,” Dolly added. “However, it also depends on who they are when they make a mistake.” That is why God is present.

“Now, I happen to believe in God; I’m a faith-based person, so I can see it that way.” Although many people do not, everyone deserves a second opportunity. You have the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

“Even if you’re proven guilty, if God can forgive you, so can I,” she said. If God can forgive you, we should all be able to forgive one another.”
