“The Stones & Brian Jones,” a documentary directed by Nick Broomfield, will be released in November. The film, presented by Magnolia Pictures and produced and directed by Broomfield, explores the true tale and legacy of Brian Jones, the originator and creative driving force behind The Rolling Stones’ early days.

“The Stones & Brian Jones” explores the musical talent of Jones, vital to the band’s early success, and how his death at the age of 27 placed him in the shadows of history, with interviews with all the main members and previously unheard archive published for the first time.

At the height of Brian Jones’s fame, filmmaker Nick Broomfield encountered him by chance on a train when he was 14 years old. The film examines the Rolling Stones’ relationships and rivalries throughout their formative years, as well as the iconoclastic freedom and exuberance of the 1960s.

“The Rolling Stones were a big influence on me when I was younger.” “Brian and Mick were heroes of the day; their rebellion and breaking of the rules were a great inspiration to us,” Broomfield says of the documentary’s inspiration. “Making this film was an opportunity for me to look at that formative growing-up time, until the shock of Brian’s death in 1969 — the darkest moment in the history of The Stones, when things changed.”

Hackney Diamonds will be released on October 20 by The Rolling Stones’ current lineup, which includes the inimitable Mick Jagger, who turned 80 in July. Hackney Diamonds, the band’s first studio album of original material in 18 years, is also the first without founding member and drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021. To tease the record, the band placed a bogus advertisement in a local Hackney newspaper, complete with plenty of Stones references to satisfy astute fans.
