Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, A New Monsterverse Series, Debuts With A First Look At Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, And More

Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters is the official title for Legendary and Apple TV+’s Monsterverse series, which follows casting announcements and a teaser image of a huge animal footprint. It also gives us our first look at some of the cast, including Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, and Mr. G. Zilla.

Monarch will span three generations and explore our complex interactions with the enormous kaiju creatures. It is set in the same universe as the Legendary/Warner Bros. monster movies Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla Vs. Kong.

The series’ official synopsis is as follows: “Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Mo.” Chris Black and Matt Fraction developed the show. WandaVision’s Matt Shakman directed the first two episodes. They follow clues into the world of monsters and eventually fall into the rabbit hole of Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt and Wyatt Russell in two different time periods), where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows, taking place in the 1950s and half a century later.

Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski are also featured in this film’s cast.

Apple TV+ hasn’t said when the series will debut, but we’re guessing next year because A) that would coincide with the anticipated release of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire in theaters and B) both Godzilla and Kong are SAG-AFTRA members and are currently participating in a picket line outside Monarch HQ, which is having horrendous effects.
