Sheeran stated in a SiriusXM interview, “I think it’s an American thing.” “You watch Prince, Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Beyonce, all of these incredible performers—I’m just not that,” she said.

“I’m not going to have on-stage dancers, fireworks, and blah blah. That’s not me, I just can’t,” Sheeran continues. He continues, “I don’t think anyone wants to watch me perform at the Super Bowl either. Sheeran reveals that there had been talk of him performing “Thinking Out Loud” with Coldplay on stage in 2016, but Beyonce and Bruno Mars ended up giving the performance the necessary punch.

Sheeran claims that, at most, he would take the ‘guest’ part, allowing him to claim that he performed at the Super Bowl with “whoever.” Therefore, if there were to be an Ed Sheeran Super Bowl Halftime Show, he would have to appear as a guest. That’s not too far-fetched, especially in light of how frequently special guests have appeared in previous productions.

Taylor Swift has also publicly declined a request to perform at the Super Bowl in 2024, citing her commitments to the remaining dates of her Eras tour and the October release of 1989 (Taylor’s version).
