Happy Gilmore, A Real-Life Teenage Golfer, Is Supported By Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler has shown his support for Happy Gilmore, a real-life young golfer.

Landon Gilmore, the golfer’s given name, was nicknamed “Happy” when he began competing in tournaments at the age of six, a tribute to Sandler’s titular character in the 1996 golf comedy Happy Gilmore.

Landon, 17, announced on Twitter on Saturday that he would be attending Ball State University in Indiana.

“I am very excited to announce that I have committed to continue my academic and golf careers at Ball State University,” the adolescent stated. “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that Coach Fleck has provided me!” I’d like to thank my family, friends, and instructors for always pushing me!”

Landon’s announcement led the Billy Madison actor to retweet his post, along with the caption, “Go get em Happy.” “I’m rooting for you.”

Landon’s tweet was also noticed by the parody account for Shooter McGavin, the film’s antagonist played by Christopher McDonald.

“Congrats, but I’ll tell you what, you’d be something in one of those long drive contests,” read the funny retweet. “Hell, you’d probably make a good living doing that.” Traveling from one driving range to the next. Just an idea.”

Adam announced last year that he hopes to develop a sequel to the successful comedy.
