Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two of the world’s most prominent technology billionaires, have agreed to compete in a cage match.

Mr Musk said on his Twitter account that he was “up for a cage fight” with Mr Zuckerberg.

Mr Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, subsequently tweeted a screenshot of Mr Musk’s message with the comment “send me location.”

“The story speaks for itself,” a Meta representative remarked.

Mr Musk immediately responded to Mr Zuckerberg’s remark with the phrase “Vegas Octagon.”

The Octagon is the fenced-in enclosure and competition mat used for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fights. The UFC is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr Musk, who will turn 52 later this month, also tweeted: “I have this great move I call ‘The Walrus,’ where I just lie on top of my opponent and do nothing.”

Later, he tweeted short films of walruses, implying that his challenge to Mr Zuckerberg was not fully serious.

“I almost never work out, except for picking up my kids and throwing them in the air,” he added on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Mr Zuckerberg, 39, has started practicing mixed martial arts (MMA) and has recently won jiu-jitsu contests.

When contacted by the BBC for response, Twitter did not issue a remark.

The arguments have gone viral, with social media users arguing who would win the battle and others posting parodies such as mocked up ads advertising the fight.

For example, business consultant Seyi Taylor tweeted: “Choose your fighter” alongside images of the two tech titans.

Broadcaster and fight sports journalist Nick Peet told the BBC’s World at One that UFC president Dana White would be “licking his lips at the prospect of putting this fight on.”

He stated that he believed there was a good possibility it would go ahead, “mostly because of Elon Musk and his personality and eccentric character.” His career shows that he is not someone who willingly steps down.”

When asked who he thought would win, he said, “Zuckerberg all day!” He’s 12 years younger than me. He’s much smaller. Elon’s height is presumably around 6 feet. And Elon is probably a few of stone overweight.

“Unfortunately, Mr Musk has no training at all.” Despite the fact that Zuckerberg has only been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 18 months, it wouldn’t be difficult for him to seize his back, put his arms around his neck, and choke him out!”

Mr Musk has a habit of making statements that are either not serious or do not come true.

For example, he told a source in April that he had appointed his dog as Twitter’s CEO.

In 2017, he claimed that he received “verbal government approval” for a “hyperloop” – a type of train system – to connect New York City to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. This has yet to happen.

Mr Musk was forced to resign as Tesla chairman in 2018 after tweeting that he intended to take the company private.

Mr Musk has also followed through on some of his promises, such as stepping down as CEO of Twitter this year after Twitter users voted in favor of his resignation in a poll he organized.

He had previously stated that he intended to step down as CEO in November 2022.

Rivalry in technology

Meta presented colleagues designs for a text-based social network aimed to compete with Twitter earlier this month.

It may allow users to follow accounts they currently follow on Meta’s image-sharing program, Instagram.

It may allow the company to gain followers via decentralized networks such as Mastodon.

A Meta representative acknowledged to the BBC that the platform was in the works.

The text-based network, codenamed P92, may prove to be a more formidable competitor to Elon Musk’s Twitter than BlueSky or Mastodon.
