Babyface has been fired as Anita Baker’s support act after allegedly receiving “verbal abuse and threats of violence” from his followers.
The 65-year-old soul singer has decided to continue her ‘Songstress Tour’ on her own after alleging hatred from the 64-year-old R&B star’s fan base.
Anita accused Babyface, whose actual name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, of deceiving his followers into believing he was the tour’s co-headliner last month.
She wrote, “He should tell you guys, the Truth.”
Babyface’s set at New Jersey’s Prudential Centre was canceled on May 10 so that Anita could finish her show.
“I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at @PruCenter,” Babyface tweeted.

“I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms Baker space and time to perform her entire show.” My band and I are incredibly disappointed that we were unable to play for you tonight.”
And now, the ‘Sweet Love’ hitmaker has spoken out about the alleged assault and stated that she will no longer be touring with Babyface.
“After Silently, Enduring Cyber Bulling/Verbal Abuse and Threats of Violence from Our Special Guest/Support Act’s Fan Base,” she tweeted. For the sake of personal safety. ‘The Songstress Tour,’ I will continue on my own. Refunds will be issued when needed. Blessings. (sic)”
Babyface responded in a statement to Variety, saying, “I am saddened by the news that Anita Baker has decided to remove me from ‘The Songstress Tour.'” It’s disappointing and disheartening to watch how events have unfolded on social media. While I was excited for the remaining dates, I have nothing but love and respect for Anita and wish her the best for the rest of her tour.”
