Los Angeles prosecutors are reportedly seeking 13 years in prison for Tory Lanez in connection with the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez was convicted in December on three felony charges and faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison. Meghann Cuniff, an independent journalist, revealed a brief submitted by the prosecution on Tuesday online.
“Words have power, and the pen is often more powerful than the sword.” In this example, Daystar Peterson [Lanez’s legal name] used both,” according to the memo. “Not content with injuring the victim with his sword (gun), he also used his pen.” His nearly three-year-long online postings have re-traumatized the victim.”

“His online reach is worldwide (millions of followers plus casual observers), and the defendant’s statements embolden his followers to the point where they, too, have been complicit in re-traumatizing the victim,” the document continues. He bears responsibility for the consequences of his words and deeds.” Later, it mentions the release of Lanez’s album, Daystar, as well as the fact that he mentions the shooting in the lyrics. The document also mentions his September 2022 attack on August Alsina in Chicago as another example of his lack of remorse.

The prosecution brief comes after Lanez and his legal team filed a motion to remove Judge David Herriford, citing partiality. Herriford presided over Lanez’s two-week trial in December and just denied his plea for a fresh trial. When Lanez submitted the motion, Herriford shot down the claims in a written ruling. “All of my rulings in this action have been based on facts and arguments officially presented to me, as well as my understanding of the law,” he stated. “All of my statements and actions in this proceeding have been made in furtherance of what I believe to be my judicial duties.” Lanez’s sentence is scheduled for June 13.
