Apple is anticipated to unveil a mixed-reality headset at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in California.

It would be the technology company’s most important product introduction since the Apple Watch debuted in 2015.

Tim Cook, the CEO, is anticipated to use his keynote speech to declare that this new product is the future.

However, its estimated price of around $3,000 (£2,400) may make it difficult to sell to customers.

While Apple has not acknowledged the headset’s existence, reports say it would provide both virtual and augmented reality experiences.

The “Reality Pro” appears in images online to resemble wraparound ski goggles.

If the rumors are true, Apple has reduced the size and weight of its headset by removing the inbuilt battery. Instead, users will need to carry an extra battery that is connected to the headset through a connection.

According to sources, the headset would not be available immediately after its unveiling at WWDC, but rather later in the year.

According to Sol Rogers of visual-effects film studio Magnopus, the industry will not change overnight as a result of WWDC, but it will provide “validation and credibility” to the technology as a whole.

The conference, which will take place at Apple Park, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, will be aired live on the company’s website and YouTube channel.

Mr Cook will also discuss Apple’s artificial-intelligence (AI) ambitions.

Since the rise of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, more people have expressed interest in using generative AI on their iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs.

When it comes to this intensely contested AI weapons race, Apple has remained more quiet than Microsoft and Google.

However, recent job postings for more software engineers indicate that it is looking to expand its AI capabilities.

Apple is also expected to announce a 15-inch (38-cm) MacBook Air notebook, as well as improvements to its iOS, iPadOS, and macOS operating systems.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Apple would unveil a mental-health journaling iPhone app during WWDC.

According to International Data Corporation, the headset market suffered a 54% reduction in global sales last year.

And Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will most likely be hoping that Mr Cook can firmly focus on headsets as the next big thing.
