Two decades later, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are ready to relive Freaky Friday.
In commemoration of the film’s 20th anniversary, the cast members gathered for an interview with The New York Times. Tess and Anna trade bodies and physically walk in each other’s shoes in the successful 2003 Disney comedy directed by Mark Waters and starring Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Harold Gould, and others.
“As an 11-year-old, The Parent Trap seemed monumental to me. I immersed myself in everything: dialects, green screens, and playing two characters. So that made me feel better. “It felt different because I was going through all of the phases of a 16-year-old [but playing a character a year younger],” Lohan, now 36, remembered.
“I wanted to experience the era of Avril Lavigne and punk,” she concluded. “We created white stripes in my hair.” I put [the colorist] Tracy Cunningham through hell because I bleached my gorgeous red hair.”
Curtis, 64, remembers accepting the job just days before she arrived on set after another actor dropped out.
“I do not think it would have been as good if I had had all the time in the world to prepare.” “I just had to be in my body,” the recent Academy Award winner explained. “I was also newly sober, and I was able to find a community within the film industry.” That meant a lot to me.”
According to the Halloween actress, her connection with Lohan was “very easy” from the start. Curtis “immediately took me under her wing,” Lohan recalled.
“I was so nervous to do my first kiss on camera,” Lohan explained, “so she talked to me in my trailer and made it funny so I would not stress about it.”
Curtis revealed that eating fries and singing along to Justin Timberlake was her “strongest memory” from the making of Freaky Friday.
“My strongest memory is of the two of us eating french fries in the car.” ‘Hey, Jamie, it is Linds,’ I say now whenever I get a text out of the blue. ‘What was the song we were attempting to rap to during Freaky Friday?’ If she responds to Justin Timberlake’s “Like I Love You,” I know she is Lindsay Lohan.”
“Now that you have told everyone, we can not do that anymore,” Lohan joked. I recall that we wanted fresh french fries, and she kept grabbing the best ones.”
The two actresses have been outspoken about wanting to produce a Freaky Friday sequel in recent months, with Curtis (who plays in Disney’s upcoming Haunted Mansion reboot) suggesting earlier this year that it is “going to happen.”
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” she told the New York Times. Something truly struck a nerve. When I returned, I called my Disney pals and said, ‘It feels like there is a movie to be created.'”
“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we are leaving it in the hands of the powers that be,” Lohan, who is expecting her first child, continued. “We would only create something that people would adore.”
