North West left the Ritz-Carlton entrance in New York City on Monday with her mother Kim Kardashian, despite not going to the Met Gala.
According to social media, Kardashian’s 9-year-old eldest daughter accompanied her mother, 42, for the drive to the event while sporting a vintage Chanel jacket from the film What Goes Around Comes Around, denim, and a conch shell clutch.
What prevented North from walking on the red carpet this year? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Met Gala participants must be 18 or older as of 2018.
The 2018 Met Gala had the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” and attendees under the age of 18 were not allowed. According to a spokeswoman, the theme that year was deemed “not an appropriate event” for those who were not of legal age, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Although her mother was carrying North at the 2013 event to benefit the Met Costume Institute, North has yet to make it to the Met Gala.

The creator of SKIMS attended the 2023 Met Gala decked up in pearls, a year after donning Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” outfit.
In a handmade Schiaparelli haute couture creation by Daniel Roseberry, Kardashian wore a draped skirt and top comprised of more than 50,000 freshwater pearls and 16,000 crystal pearls for her 10th Met Gala outing.
Kardashian admitted to Vogue, “I wanted pearls. “I asked myself, ‘What is more Karl [Lagerfield]?'” You know, I’ve always pictured the famous Chanel pearls. So we wanted to be completely covered in pearls.
Twelve artists worked 1,000 hours on the gown.
“Some popped on the way, and I told my daughter to grab them all,” the Kardashian family star said. She was placing all of them in her purse, and they are genuine pearls.
