The Weeknd has addressed rumors regarding his upcoming television program, The Idol.
The singer-songwriter, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, portrays a self-help guru/leader of a contemporary cult in the new HBO drama. Lily-Rose Depp plays the budding popstar who develops a tangled relationship with the character.
The Canadian singer said he and Lily-Rose were able to be “vulnerable” on the set in a recent interview with Jeremy O. Harris for the latest issue of Interview magazine, despite accusations made earlier this year that the production had been plagued by issues.
We had a terrific leader, so we got to both just be free and vulnerable, he said. “We had someone who gave us a sense of security and comfort, that we were all building something to be proud of in the future. Huge shout-out to Sam and the rest of the crew. That’s your twin, Sam, you know that. Family is right there.
The Weeknd continued by saying that while he has a “thick skin,” he feels awful for other members of the production who got mixed up in the gossip.

“I get a little hurt when it impacts other people. I’m discovering that when people start rumors, it really does damage a lot of other people in the film industry. On these initiatives, many people put in a lot of effort. When you folks approach me while I’m in my own world, I’m like, “Okay, cool.” I’m a mature boy. I can solve the problem. However, it hurts to have 200 people working diligently on a project like this. The 33-year-old questioned, “Especially when what they’re saying is far from the truth, but what can you do?
On June 4, HBO will air the series debut of The Idol, which also stars Troye Sivan, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, and Hank Azaria.
