We’ll hear from Brittany Griner on her “unfathomable” experience in a Russian prison. The AP reports Griner hopes to release a memoir in the spring of 2024.
After being caught at an airport on drug-related charges, Griner spent ten months in a prison in Moscow. Her detention occurred just before Russia invaded Ukraine. A prisoner swap resulted in her release.
Griner stated in a statement that “that day (in February) was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life that I am only now ready to share.”
“I wanted to make my wife, family, and teammates proud, so that’s why I went back to Russia for work that day. I am happy to have been saved and returned home after spending a harrowing ten months in confinement. Readers will learn about my experience and comprehend why I am so appreciative of the worldwide outpouring of support.
Griner requested earlier this month that the Biden Administration intervene and attempt to secure the release of American journalist Evan Gershkovich, who is now being held in Russia on espionage allegations. The Wall Street Journal reporter Gershkovich might spend 20 years behind bars.

“Our hearts are filled with great concern for Evan Gershkovitch and his family since Van’s detainment in Russia. We must do everything in our power to bring him and all Americans home. We are grateful for President Biden and his administration’s deep commitment to rescue Americans. We celebrate their recent successful efforts to bring home Jeff Woodke and Paul Rusesabagina.”
