The 39-year-old rapper and actor, whose real name is Donald Glover, has admitted that his 2018 hit, about the Black Lives Matter movement and featuring a number of rappers including Young Thug, Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd, BlocBoy JB, Quavo of Migos, and 21 Savage, was meant to make fun of the “God’s Plan” hitmaker.

“[It] was a funny way of like doing [a Drake diss], but then I was like, ‘This s*** sounds kind of hard, though,'” he admitted to GQ magazine. I therefore said, “Let me play with it.” We had that idea for quite some time, and when I mentioned it to Hiro [Murai, his usual collaborator], he said, “Oh, let’s do it.

When Glover was hosting “Saturday Night Live,” the song was also published.

He emphasized the lack of diversity in the “Star Wars” franchise during his appearance on the late-night sketch program.

He reprised his part as Lando Calrissian and said, “I’ll admit, the outcome was a little disappointing.

“I had hoped that there was a planet with black people, but I guess it’s just us,” the speaker said. Lots of vest-clad lizard guys. But there are only four black individuals.

“How do you make people care about anything anymore?” he recalled thinking. There is simply a ton of s***. You need a real-time event, and that was [“Saturday Night Live”].

“OK, we’re going to do this ‘SNL’ thing, we’ll drop it at midnight,” Wolf, Rothstein, and Family said. Additionally, the mood of what was occurring at the time, as a result of all the uprisings and riots, really influenced my writing and other things. Hey, would you like to get on [this song]? I asked as I was in the middle of recording sessions with [Young Thug] and all these other individuals. For the trap, I was creating it similar to “We Are The World.” It just turned into a situation where I was like, “Yo, it needs to feel like everything.

Glover acknowledged in the same interview that he doesn’t think his career would have turned out the same if he had been selected for the “SNL” ensemble.

I avoided so many dangers, he said. The thought of appearing on “SNL” destroyed me.

But if I had appeared on “SNL,” Glover continued, my career would not have taken off. And praise God.
