Robert De Niro To Star In Crime Drama Series ‘Bobby Meritorious’ In The Works At Paramount+ From Billy Ray

The two-time Oscar recipient will star in the Paramount Television Studios original series Bobby Meritorious, which also includes Preet Bharara, who served as the Southern District of New York’s US Attorney from 2009 to 2017.

After defeating a rival studio in a bid for the idea, Paramount made the commitment to develop it. The business has also optioned Bharara’s book Doing Justice: A Prosecutor’s Thoughts on Crime, Punishment, and the Rule of Law as part of the agreement.

It’s De Niro’s second TV project to surface in recent weeks, following Eric Newman’s conspiracy drama Zero Day, which Netflix ordered for a limited run.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is a self-governing kingdom with ostensibly limitless power, is where the series is based. Avery “The Sage” Accomando, portrayed by De Niro, an informant in SDNY’s biggest case, is now prepared to destroy this illustrious organization. A legendary former police officer turned prosecutor known only as Bobby Meritorious is the only person who can halt him. The conflict between these two titans represents the struggle for justice itself.

Ray will both compose and oversee production. Billy Ray is best known for creating and directing The Comey Rule, a Showtime drama starring Jeff Daniels and based on James Comey’s book A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership. The Last Tycoon, which he also wrote and produced. In terms of movies, Ray is the author of The Hunger Games (2012), Captain Phillips, and Richard Jewell.

Along with his production partner Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh, a member of the duo’s Tribeca Productions, De Niro will also serve as executive producer. Together with Preet Bharara, Peter Gethers will serve as executive producer.

De Niro’s first series regular television part was Zero Day, which Netflix ordered earlier this month. Leslie Linka Glatter is directing the series, which was created by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim, and Michael S. Schmidt. It poses the question, “How do we find truth in a world in crisis, one that seems to be torn apart by forces outside our control?”

In terms of movies, Barry Levinson’s future projects include Wise Guys and Killers of the Flower Moon, his tenth film with Martin Scorsese. Along with Bobby Cannavale, Rose Byrne, Vera Farmiga, Rainn Wilson, and Whoopi Goldberg, De Niro recently finished production on Tony Goldwyn’s forthcoming film Inappropriate Behavior.

De Niro was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and he has taken home two of them: Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather Part II and Best Actor for Raging Bull. Additionally, he has been nominated for a number of Emmys, including Best Actor for his portrayal of Bernie Madoff in HBO’s Wizard of Lies.
