Disney’s upcoming live-action project is presently in development, and one of its title characters has just been discovered.

The juvenile lead Lilo in the upcoming Lilo & Stitch remake has been portrayed by newcomer Maia Kealoha. Kealoha joins Zach Galifiankis, who was recently announced. No one Galifiankis is playing has been publicly confirmed as of yet.

Lilo & Stitch, which is based on the animated film from 2002, is about Lilo Pelekai, a young Hawaiian girl who is nurtured by her 19-year-old sister Nani. Lilo, who frequently struggles to blend in, quickly discovers a friend when an alien dog-like creature by the name of Stitch crashes on Earth. The two quickly become close, and Lilo is resolved to defend Stitch from other aliens who might be trying to hurt him. Lilo and Nani must deal with social services’ persistent vigilance in the meantime. Three extra sequels and a two-season television series have been produced since the film’s debut.

Although Kealoha will be making her acting debut in the movie, she has participated in Little Miss Kona Coffee pageants and has Tahitian dancing expertise. Fans of Lilo & Stitch are aware of Lilo’s love of dancing, which is revealed early on in the series. Though we must wait to see what the young talent has in store for her acting, it is already obvious that she has a key component of Lilo down pat.

Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who previously wrote for the short film Tsuru, makes his feature writing début with the remake. The film will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, who most recently won critical praise for Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. Jon M. Chu, who was first associated with the initiative in 2020, is replaced by him. Producers of Rideback are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, and senior producer Ryan Halprin is on board.

Joining a Long List of Live-Action Remakes is Lilo & Stitch
Disney in particular has been on the live-action bandwagon for a while now, concentrating on live-action remakes of several cherished animated masterpieces. The Aristocats is the most recent movie to be revisited, according to a recent company announcement.

A direct live-action remake of Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio appeared near the end of 2022, but reviewers and viewers in general did not like it. There have also been remakes of other masterpieces, including Dumbo, The Jungle Book, and The Lion King. The live-action Peter Pan & Wendy episode will premiere on Disney+ on April 28. The Little Mermaid live-action movie will arrive in cinemas on May 26 immediately after.
