Since Messenger was removed by Meta from the Facebook mobile program so long ago, Windows Phone has barely existed.
Nearly nine years later, Meta is prepared to reunite them. Facebook CEO Tom Alison wrote, “We are testing the ability for people to access their Messenger inbox within the Facebook app and you’ll see us extend this testing soon. In the end, whether through the Messenger app or directly on Facebook, we want connecting and sharing to be simple and efficient for users.
“Our aim is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences,” Meta stated when it removed Messenger from the Facebook app in 2014. It’s unknown whether Meta intends to reinstate messaging in Facebook’s mobile browser. In 2016, it began directing mobile web users to the Messenger app. In any case, it’s probably not a terrible thing to have one less app to manage on your phone. It’s possible that you can contact Instagram users from the Facebook app as well.

In an oddly worded blog entry about Facebook’s focus areas for 2023, Meta made the announcement. The post attempts to assure people that “Facebook is not dead nor dying,” as it now has more than 2 billion members.
Meta is trying to change Facebook from an app where you keep up with friends and family to more of an entertainment and discovery platform in an effort to compete with TikTok. Making Facebook “the best place for social discovery and sharing” is the goal, according to Alison in the blog entry.
In order to “make it easier for people to share what they find on Facebook via messaging, when, where, and how it suits their needs, without having to switch to another app,” Alison wrote, Meta is bringing messaging back to the Facebook app. TikTok users can use the built-in direct messaging feature to share videos they stumble upon with their contacts. In this manner, Meta is both changing its strategy and returning to an earlier way of doing things while also imitating a rival.
